UGC Ishan Uday Special Scholarship Scheme 2021 Overview

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released the guidelines for the Ishan Uday Special Scholarship Scheme for the North Eastern Region (2021). The scheme offers 10,000 scholarships at the rate of Rs. 8,000 per month for 10 months each year. It is specifically designed for students belonging to the economically weaker sections of the North Eastern Region (NER) who are pursuing undergraduate studies.

Distribution and Eligibility Criteria

Out of the total slots, 50% are earmarked for Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Law, and Management, while the remaining 50% are allocated for Science, Engineering, Technology, Medical, Technical, Agriculture, and Forestry programmes. Eligible applicants must have passed Class XII or an equivalent examination from a school in the NER through a recognized board and must be admitted to the first year of a recognized undergraduate degree programme in eligible institutions.

The annual income of the student's parents must be below Rs. 04.50 lakh. Students must possess a valid domicile certificate from any state of the NER and must be enrolled in regular or full-time courses. Admissions through management quota or via open, distance, or part-time modes are not eligible. Additionally, beneficiaries must not receive any other scholarship or monetary benefit concurrently.

Application and Verification Procedure

Applications are invited once a year via the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) of the Government of India. Students must submit online applications through the portal and provide necessary supporting documents to their respective institutions for verification. Institutions are responsible for checking candidate eligibility, verifying academic credentials, domicile, and income certificates, and uploading verification certificates onto the NSP.

Disbursement and Renewal

Scholarships are directly disbursed to the student's Aadhaar-linked bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) via the Public Financial Management System (PFMS). The scholarship is renewable annually for subsequent years of study, subject to good conduct, maintenance of prescribed attendance, and successful promotion to the next class or level without changing the course of study or institution.
